Parent Information

Parent Responsibilties
Parents are responsible for the safe conduct of children to and from school. Please be especially aware of your
child’s conduct after school to avoid accidents. Please keep the children off the wall by the stairs at all times.
Please keep your child with you at all times. Please do not allow your child to leave the building without you.

Please read all notices sent home with your child carefully and completely. This is an important means of
communication between the home and school.

At no time should birthday invitations be given out at school.
Please refer to your class lists for information when addressing your invitations.

There are 3 special events that we require a parent to attend: the Christmas Program, May Day and Graduation.
The children work very hard on these programs and it is important for their self-esteem to have a loved o0ne present.
If you cannot attend, it is your RESPONSIBILITY to provide a substitute loved one.

Home Habits
Here are some home habits that will help your child at school:
  • Putting away his/her toys.
  • Listening to others and following directions-only give one at a time and check to see that they do what they ask.
  • Doing simple household tasks.
  • Helping other…siblings, pets, neighbors, etc.
  • Having regular times to go to bed, get up, rest and play that fits your child’s school needs.
  • Find time every day to READ with your child!

  • Health
If your child contracts any communicable disease, you should immediately notify the school.
A doctor’s note is required for return to school following a communicable disease.

In order to prevent the spread of germs and disease, it is advisable to keep your child home from school when
he/she shows signs of the following symptoms:
Vomiting/Nausea, Sore Throat, Earache, Red or Discharging Eyes, Discolored Secretions from Nose, Fever/Chills
Headache, Pain, Diarrhea, Coughing, Enlarged Glands, Skin Eruptions
If a child comes to school with any of the above symptoms, the parents will be notified and the child sent home.

Please note that if your child has experienced any of the above symptoms the school must insist
that they be Sympton/Fever Free for more than 24 hours. Please do not give your child Motrin
and send them to school with a low-grade fever.

For any illness requiring an antibiotic, the child must be on the medication 48 hours before returning to school.

    Snack Days
We ask each child to be Host or Hostess several times during the year. The children take pride in sharing
their snack with the others in their class. You may send in kid friendly snacks such as, crackers, pretzels,
fruit bites, cookies etc. We do ask for sanitary reasons that all snacks be individually wrapped
(either purchased that way or wrapped in snack bags at home).

There are small refrigerators in the room to keep snacks cold if necessary.
Along with your snack, please send in 1 can of all natural fruit juice for the 3 year olds and
2 cans for the Pre-K class (unless otherwise noted by your child’s teacher).

IF YOUR CHILD HAS ANY TYPE OF FOOD ALLERGIES PLEASE SHARE THIS
    INFORMATION WITH YOUR TEACHER!

Birthdays are celebrated at snack time. This is the only time we suggest cupcakes.

    Class Trips
Our school feels that Field Trips are an important part of our curriculum. We try to arrange, as many
walking trips as possible but a number of trips are at locations where transportation must be provided.
On these days it is the responsibility of the parent to transport the child to and from the location
of the event. If there is room the parents will be welcome to stay, if not the teachers will ask for volunteer
helpers ahead of time. Because of insurance reasons the school cannot take the responsibility for
transporting children. Parents can take it upon themselves to make arrangements for carpooling if it
suits their needs. If you make such arrangements, the teacher must be notified in writing prior the trip.

    Drop Off and Dismissal
For your convenience and the children’s safety, a drop-off system will be implemented starting the first full
week of school. Traffic will proceed south on 3rd Avenue, pulling up to the curb in front of the double red doors.
Please stay in a single file line and do not double park. The classroom aides will be there to assist your child
    safely into the building from 8:55 to 9:10 A.M and 12:25 to 12:40 P.M.

Please have your child ready to exit the car.
Hats, gloves, backpacks, etc. should be on before the aide gets to the door.
If you need to come into the building during the drop-off time, please park away from the double red doors on 3rd Ave.
For the safety and well being of the children attending our school, the double red doors
    will be locked at 9:10 A.M. and 12:40 P.M.

If you arrive late, please ring the doorbell and our administrative coordinator or one of the teachers will assist
    your child to his/her classroom.
Dismissal is at 11:30 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. Please arrange for your child to be picked up promptly at this time.
The doors to the school will be unlocked at approximately 11:15A.M. and 2:45 P.M.
Please call if you are going to be late. Any child picked up later than 10 minutes after dismissal on a regular basis
will be fined $1.00 for each minute that you are late.
If your child is to be dismissed to someone other than the parents, a written notice MUST be sent to the teacher.
This precaution is for your child’s safety!
